What does this tool actually do?+
It searches Crossref and OpenAlex for references you already have, then compares DOI, title, author, and year metadata. It does not write, generate, rewrite, or submit essays, papers, theses, assignments, or other academic work.
How does it catch fake or AI-hallucinated citations?+
Language models can invent plausible-looking references — real-sounding authors, a believable journal, a tidy year — whose details do not correspond to a publication. When no sufficiently close record is returned, the citation is marked 'Not found' for manual review.
What citation formats are supported?+
The launch parser is regression-tested for APA-like, MLA, Chicago, IEEE, Harvard, and plain-text BibTeX references. Numbered, bulleted, and line-separated lists work; Word, Google Docs, and PDF copy-pastes work best when each reference stays together.
Is a real citation ever flagged by mistake?+
Yes. Very new papers, niche books, or sources not indexed by the databases may show as 'Needs review' or 'Not found' even though they are genuine. Treat a flag as a prompt to double-check, not a final verdict.
